26.9.2010 - Vesa Hirvonen enjoyed a splendid finish for his Finnish Rally Championship career with Wartburg 353 Rally Car
Final round of the Finnish Rally Championship season 2010 was driven in final weekend of September in the region of Hyvinkää, Southern Finland. FRC Finnsco rally was also Finnish Rally Championship series final event for Flying Finn Vesa Hirvonen.
Hirvonen together with his co-driver Jussi Martiski entered the event with legendary Wartburg 353 rally car. This hilarious way to end the career received lots of respect and cheers during the rally route aswell as in service park.
Furthermore Hirvonen and Martiski swapped drivers seat for some stages.
- It was absolutely the best-ever rally we've ever encountered. We had lots of fun from the first moments until the point of retirement as lots of people gave regards for our effort to survive 16 special stages of action, Hirvonen commented.
- During the stages we were able to give some show to the spectators by sliding the car. Also in some tight corners we could lift the car front tyres from the ground. Those were absolutely brilliant moments, Hirvonen continued.
Our rally team predicted that the oldsmobile couldn't last for the finish. Team members were right as two days and 16 special stages were too hard for the car.
- In the opening stages of the rally the engine ran only with two cylinders. In service our team members fixed the problems but on seventh stage we were forced to retire the event due engine electricity problem, Hirvoinen tells.
- I have to give lots of thanks for my sponsors, partners aswell as the spectator because it was very delightful to see how they all cheered us during our campaign, even we didn't drive for top positions. Now my Finnish Rally Championship career ends. However on next season I still closely spectate the progress how things goes national and international rally scene, Hirvonen continued.
